As global management consulting firms become increasingly quantitative and analytical, they have a growing interest to hire engineers, particularly in regions that serve high-tech clients. Many firms provide technology-heavy support and solutions to clients and have practices targeted at particular industries (i.e. pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and electric power) which require specific technical qualifications.

In addition to consulting, there is a growing trend for engineers to pursue careers in business analyst and investment banking roles which require complex statistical calculations and theoretical knowledge to develop data-based products. Another area is technical sales where engineers can work in a wide range of industries to translate and explain highly complex technical information to customers and clients, focusing on how a product or piece of equipment can solve specific problems.
