Applied AI Engineer — Cybersecurity [Hybrid, Miami, FL]
About Us
At Compuquip Cybersecurity, our mission is to help organizations stay ahead of evolving cyber threats through deep expertise, intelligent automation, and modern security operations.
For over four decades, Compuquip has partnered with organizations to design, implement, and operate advanced cybersecurity programs. Our teams include security engineers, threat hunters, analysts, and architects who protect critical environments across cloud, network, and endpoint infrastructure.
As the cybersecurity landscape evolves, we are investing in AI-driven capabilities that amplify the impact of security experts. Rather than replacing human expertise, our goal is to build systems that allow subject-matter experts to encode their knowledge, automate complex reasoning, and scale their expertise across environments and customers.
We believe the future of cybersecurity will be defined by expert-driven AI systems, where domain experts can leverage intelligent tools to solve problems faster, share institutional knowledge, and continuously improve security outcomes.
About The Role
We’re hiring an Applied AI Intern to work alongside our Tech Ops team building the tools, automations, and AI-powered workflows that help our cybersecurity experts do their best work.
You’ll get hands-on experience shipping real internal tooling. You’ll work directly with security engineers, analysts, and architects to understand how they work today and prototype AI-powered systems that make them faster and more effective. Expect to write code, experiment with LLMs, integrate APIs, and see your work used by people who actually need it.
This is a great fit if you’re curious about AI, cybersecurity, and how software gets built in the real world and you want a summer where you’ll learn a ton and ship something meaningful.
What You Will Do
- Build and prototype internal tools, automations, and AI-powered workflows alongside our engineering team
- Shadow security and operations experts to understand their workflows and identify automation opportunities
- Experiment with LLMs, prompting strategies, and retrieval techniques to solve real problems
- Write clean, maintainable code in Python and/or TypeScript
- Help integrate AI capabilities with existing security platforms, APIs, and data sources
- Document what you build so others can use and extend it
- Present your work to the broader team and contribute ideas on how we apply AI across the business
What You Will Bring
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent self-taught experience)
- Solid coding fundamentals in Python, TypeScript, or a comparable language
- Genuine curiosity about AI/LLMs — you’ve experimented with them on your own, built side projects, or taken relevant coursework
- Strong communication skills and willingness to ask questions when you’re stuck
- Comfortable in ambiguous environments where the “right answer” isn’t always clear
- A self-starter mindset — we’ll mentor you, but we want someone who runs with problems
Nice To Haves
- Personal projects involving LLMs, RAG, agents, or AI-powered tools (GitHub link welcome)
- Exposure to cybersecurity concepts through coursework, clubs (CTF teams, cyber competitions), or projects
- Experience with APIs, basic cloud services (AWS/Azure/GCP), or developer tooling
- Contributions to open source
Compensation
- Paid hourly at $20/hr
- Full-time summer, open to continuation throughout the school year
- Remote with regular in-person meetings with local team members
- Potential to convert to a full-time role after graduation for the right candidate
