About Ecotune

Ecotune is a fast-growing materials innovation startup on a mission to develop the next generation of sustainable materials. We develop and scale fully bio-based materials that function as high-performance coatings for textiles in industries including automotive, furniture, footwear, and fashion.

The Role

We are seeking an exceptionally talented, innovative, and enthusiastic Materials Science Intern focused on synthesizing and optimizing bio-based textile coatings to join our growing team.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out bio-based materials synthesis and processing
  • Performing laboratory prototyping and accurately recording & evaluating experimental data
  • Identifying industry-standard materials specifications, creating test parameters, and carrying out mechanical, physical, and other performance testing

Qualifications

  • In-progress Bachelor of Science or related degree with current university enrollment in Materials Science/Engineering, Chemistry/Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • Prefer completion of 3+ years materials science coursework and 1+ years chemistry coursework
  • Preferred research experience in materials prototyping and materials analysis
  • Theoretical knowledge or hands-on experience with materials analysis techniques including mechanical, physical, thermal, rheological testing
  • Strong interest in sustainable materials and green chemistry
  • Innovative, creative thinking and high-level research skills
  • Established problem-solving abilities, extraordinary work ethic, and “can-do” attitude
  • Excellent communication skills and fast-paced adaptability

Type: Internship, paid, part-time

Location: Irvine, California (on-site required)
