Research & Development Intern

Intern Will Report To: Supervisor Engineering Research and Testing – NPD

Location: Pueblo, CO (Hybrid)

Overview:

Support the team with modeling, drawing and analyzing railcar components. In addition, support the analysis of large data sets using available analytical tools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create drawings and models in CAD system.
  • Setup and run Finite Element models and simulations.
  • Testing to validate the FEA and design of the product.
  • 3D scanning and 3D printing of existing products and prototypes.
  • Using analytical tools like pivot tables and Power BI to process large data sets.
  • Present findings to group based on the data analysis.
  • Report preparation and presentation of project status.
  • Support track testing activities – railcar inspection, instrumentation, calibration, test execution

Projects the Intern Will Work On:

  • To be determined when the internship starts

Internship Goals:

  • Complete all the assigned tasks
  • Follow TTX standard work procedures
  • Provide project status and timeline updates
  • Present project conclusions to the department
  • Gain experience by applying what was learnt in the classroom and more

Qualifications:

  • Full time students pursuing Mechanical Engineering

Preferred Qualities Possessed by Candidate:

  • Candidate should have a drive to learn new technologies and concepts
  • Basic knowledge of Statics, Mechanics and Strength of Materials is desired
  • Some experience with CAD modelling, Finite Element Analysis, and Data Analytics is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of data visualization tools, e.g. PowerBI, MS Excel
  • Basic knowledge of utilizing AI productivity tools
  • Basic knowledge of electrical circuits
  • Aptitude for problem solving, critical thinking, and analytics
  • Should be eager to try new ideas
